Step 00 / Find references : Before starting any project I always search references and different point of view for my character. This time, it will be Blacksad the main character from the comics of Juanjo Guarnido :)
Step 01 / Start the head with Zbrush : I create a Zsphere to make the basemesh for the Head and added spheres for the eyes. You don't need to make something perfect to begin but general form is important.
Step 02 / Get a symmetrical head : Replicated volumes and curves to get closer as possible from the reference.
Step 03 / Create BaseMesh for the body : Next I prepared my model to be dressed and think it will be animated. I just used Zremesher for the topology and it was enough.
Step 04 / Export in MarvelousDesigner : I export my model in Marvelous Designer and start to create the different clothes.
Step 05 / Animate the character I could have used ZBrush but I wanted something clean so I did a quick rig with maya. Then I exported the animation with a geometry cache in Marvelous.
Step 06 / Prepare the character for posing : I block the points on the jacket for a better deformation during the animation.
Step 07 / Pose the character in Marvelous : I opened the pocket from the pant and fixed the last details.
Step 08 / Export in Zbrush : I re-imported the model in Zbrush and used Zremesher for better topology, created thick for clothes, replaced the head, added the final details like buttons, tie , belt, etc ... At this stage the modeling is finished.
Step 09 / Begin Retopology : Now I can start retopology by switching between ZBrush and Maya . Without forgotten to unfold UV .
Step 10 / Check your model : It's time to check Normal map and Modeling with Marmoset creating the lights in the scene. I want my model clean before starting any texture.
Final Step / Textures and Compositing : I Add textures and adjust the last parameters. The model is finally complete!
